For those who are busy on the go iPhone 4 introduces multitasking. You can run multiple apps and flick between them instantly without slowing down the performance or draining the battery. Here at Fluid we are also loving folders for your apps, it’s really going to help organise us!

After a long wait we finally get the front-facing video camera that lets users video-chat using the new ‘Facetime’ feature. Unfortunately Facetime will only be available from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 in WIFI areas to start with but it promised to give you exceptional quality of Video calling with virtually no set-up involved.

The updated 5 mega-pixel camera with built-in LED flash will allow users to record high definition video. With the added feature of Imovie for the Iphone you will be able to edit your videos on the go. In this case 2 cameras are definitly better than 1.

A key feature for us at Fluid is the iPhone 4 high definition screen with the so-called ‘retinal display‘ of 326 pixels per inch (ppi). With such a high definition screen it will give a real comparison to print and will benefit the introduction of Ibooks for Iphones massively.

If you fancy a bit of a change from Google the new Iphone 4 also allows you to change your search provider to Bing.

A huge one for social media is that users will be able to play Farmville, a massively popular game played via Facebook. The developers have written a version of the game that does not require Adobe’s Flash, which Apple still refuses to carry. Yes they still haven’t embraced Flash and as creatives it is still a small bugbear with us.

The iPhone 4 will be retailing at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for 32GB in the states and no doubt apple will do as they always do and switch the dollar for pound signs. But it’s time to put the date in your diary, pre-orders will start on the 15th July.

Despite the leaks online over the past few months we weren’t disappointed and on the whole its one hell of a gadget WE HAVE TO HAVE!

In addition some useful Safari properties allow us to link directly to a Google Map of our office and have the iPhone application load, making it easier for you all to find us! Visitors can also call us directly from the site without having to remember our telephone number.

The main website is built on top of the industry standard Zend Framework, so the iPhone detection was a simple as creating a custom front controller plugin. By examining the user agent of the device we can determine if the user is using an iPhone or iPod Touch and transparently redirect them to the iPhone version of the website.

Although the site has only just gone live we already have a huge list of ideas for the next version including full integration with our custom CMS. This will allow visitors to browse our new blog posts and portfolio items directly from the device with some fancy styling thrown in for good measure!

You might be aware that recently we’ve revamped our website, well this is just one of the optical treats we have in store for you as we’re implementing more Cinema 4D substance into the site very soon.

In September last year Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey announced that he would be launching a new startup: Square.  This service would provide IPhone users with a dongle-like square add-on that would allow them to take credit card transactions my simply swiping them through the square and entering their payment details using the phone.  You can even use the IPhone interface to scrawl your signature with your finger.  The receipt is then emailed through to the buyer and the who transaction is logged with geo-location.  The benefit of all this is that the entire transaction is kept clean, simple and paperless.

Impressively, the device plugs into the IPhone via the audio input jack and is synced up to software on the phone.  Initial beta models of Square have been made solely for the IPhone, however it is expected that it will be modified to work with Blackberry’s and even perhaps older models of mobile phones.  There is little doubt that Square will prove to be a very innovative and useful application for those doing business on the move.

Plucky developers have been turning their talents to building various instruments that can be played on the IPhone.  This has inevitably led to the forming of IPhone bands:

This is all well and good, but I believe that we should think bigger.  Would it be possible to gather together enough musical Iphone applications that we’d be able to form an IPhone orchestra?  For this we’re not going to emulate an old school Classical Orchestra or even an Early Romantic Orchestra – we’re bringing things right up to date with a Modern Orchestra which of course, looks like this:

So now we have to find some instruments for each of the sections.  Let’s take care of the woodwind family first.

No one has been posh enough to develop a bassoon or clarinet app yet, but we have found our flute:

Next we need to fill up the brass section.  I’d love to see a tuba app, but for now we’ll have to make do with this rather lovely trumpet:

So we have enough to get a nice little melody going but how can we add a bit more rhythm?  For the percussion section the IPhone Drummer will take care of the snare drum, bass drum, timpani, gong, cymbals and triangle!  I’ve never seen an orchestra with a turntable or slide whistle, though…shame!

Our orchestra is starting to come together now.  Let’s add a little piano:

And finally – the string section.  There’s a nice selection of applications out there including this rather clever violin app…

…and even a realistic sounding harp!

And with our ‘orchestra’ complete, all that is left is for some clever musical type to compose a piece for it!  You never know – we may still have something up our sleeve yet.
