We were all very sad to hear the bobbins news that Manchester legend, Frank Sidebottom passed away this week.

It’s impossible not to have been touched by Frank’s plight since he announced on his Twitter page that he had been diagnosed with cancer.  Frank even auctioned off a picture he drew of himself of ‘me after chemotherapy‘ with all proceeds going to cancer research, a gesture that was both hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time.

The news that Frank’s creator passed away nearly penniless has kickstarted a grassroots campaign to fund his funeral with former bandmate Jon Ronson setting up a PayPal account (jonelle1929@gmail.com) to accept donations.  With funds already exceeding £17,000, the funeral is very much paid for and it is thought that the rest of the money is going to cancer research.  The idea of a Frank Sidebottom statue has also been floated around – which I think would be an amazing idea.

Tributes have been pouring in, with even a Facebook group and Twitter account having been setup to try and get one of Frank’s songs to number one, again with all proceeds going to cancer research – lets make it happen!

Frank may be gone, but his fantastic fans are still here.
